Home Theater Harmony

I am like many people who have spent time building a decent home theater, with components hand picked for different purposes. The more it built up, the more remotes came along with it. While it was not hard for me to use these remotes, it was a little bit annoying.Last year, my son bought me a universal remote for my birthday. It was great, I now had one remote to use all my stuff. For me, I was good to go. However, over time we realized that it was not much easier for others. In some ways, it was harder to figure out. When one of my son’s grandparents would come to babysit for us, they had the worst time trying to watch TV. We essentially had to set everything for them before we left, and give them the “channel up/down here, volume up/down here, we will turn it all off later” training.Well, this year, my son took it to the next level for me, and bought me a Logitech Harmony remote. On the surface, you might think this is just another universal remote, but it is definitely not. It’s a remote that you program (through a pretty simple software program on your pc or mac), this programming gives you “one touch” setup for various home theater activities such as, watching tv, watching a movie, and listening to music. Once programmed, you simply select the button for the activity you want, and the remote programatically works through the settings your provided. Turn on the tv, set the input and aspect, turn on the receiver, set the volume and input and surround mode, turn on the TiVo, etc. The software works really well, it even helps you diagnose odd problems you may be encountering. If the problem does not get resolved, it gives you options to immediately contact a support team that knows how to help.If you alreay have one of these, you know what I am talking about. If you do not, and you are tired of the remote juggle, check these out, you will not regret it.
