Apple's Protected iPhone
I have been really surprised at the so called “developer” blacklash coming at Apple for updating the iPhone software. All of this baloney about Apple attacking developers or hindering them unfairly is just pathetic and immature. If you’re a developer creating an iPhone hack that messes with the phone’s software, and you’re upset with Apple, you have only yourself to blame.
Since day of of this phone being official, Jobs himself said quite clearly that the only approved development was web development (meaning nothing gets installed that they don’t want). Apparently, that wasn’t good enough for some people, so they hacked their way around it. They messed with the software of a device that is a closed platform. Like it or not, that’s reality. Apple comes along to update their phone, making it more stable, improving features, and possibly closing down the loopholes the hacks take advantage of. Whoop De Do. It’s their right to do so. It’s their product, and they have been clear about it since day one.
If you wanted a phone to play around with, then you should have spent your money on something like the OpenMoko linux phone. You can hack away to your hearts content, and nobody will mess with you, and nobody will care.
